Bird gives WP double success at u15 Week

Eastern Province, Western Province, Gauteng, Northerns and Namibia all recorded two Twenty20 (T20) wins each on the third day of the Momentum under-15 Week taking place in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

Jonathan Bird scored over 100 runs in his two outings on the day as WP beat KwaZulu-Natal Inland and Northern Cape by 48 runs and six wickets respectively.

The left-handed opener first made 59 out of a 129/6 total at North-West University No1 Ground, before hitting 46 at the same ground in a chase of 133.

Another left-hander to shine on Sunday was Gauteng wicketkeeper Heinrich Pieterse, who struck 62 in a six-wicket win over Border and also hit 36 in a seven-wicket triumph over Boland.

EP’s two wins were the most comprehensive as they demolished Limpopo by 120 runs and Free State by 56 runs, while Northerns won by six and seven wickets over KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

The fifth double winners from Day Three were Namibia after they toppled KwaZulu-Natal Inland by five wickets and Northern Cape by six wickets.

In other action, Boland beat Easterns by a massive nine wickets, KZNI were six-wicket winners over North West, who edged Mpumalanga by three wickets, and Free State ousted South Western Districts by seven wickets.

Finally, Border beat Easterns by three wickets and SWD bounced back to scrape past Limpopo by two wickets.
