Brooker shines for Jeppe at St John’s T20 Cricket Festival

Jeppe High School for Boys ended the first day of the St John’s College T20 Cricket Festival unbeaten by securing victories over King Edward VII and Potchefstroom Volkskool.

The format of the festival see three school teams per field take each other on in a triangular.
Potch Volkies’ Ludwich Schuld (60*) helped his team to a eight-wicket victory over King Edward VII in the opening match on the John Hurry Field. Schuld represented the Western Legends at Cricket South Africa’s Cubs Week earlier this year.
Schuld faced only 34 deliveries in his innings of which he dispatched 11 past the boundary rope.
KES were restricted to 114/8 in their allotted 20 overs with Callum Ritchie (22) and Kian Hilton (21) weighing in with the bat. Lunga May (2/9) and Berno de Klerk (2/15) caused the most damage with the ball in hand.
In the second match Jeppe secured a solid seven wicket victory over Potch Volkies thanks to an unbeaten half-century by Kai van Aardt (69*). He faced 47 deliveries of which he struck three fours and four sixes.
Jeppe’s Jaydon Brooker also had a very good day at the office. He removed three of Potch Volkies’ batsmen for a mere 19 runs. His partner in crime Sipho Potsane (2/15) also bowled well. Potsane represented the Central Gladiators at the Cubs Week earlier this year.
Brooker (58) also helped Jeppe to a an impressive six-wicket victory over arch-rivals, King Edward VII. Kaleb Burger (45*) and Tshepo Stafa (22) also made valuable contributions with the willow.
KES, who batted first, managed to reach 154/7 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to Rowan Kourie (47) and David Teeger (40). Kourie also boasted the best bowling figures for his side as he picked up two wickets for 36 runs.
