Khan and McAllister stars for Westville in victory over Northwood

Westville Boys’ High had to work hard for their victory over Northwood on Saturday.

Yaseen Khan (5/36) picked up a five-wicket haul as he helped his side restrict Northwood to 194 runs in their innings.

Northwood’s Evan Fouché (72) and Thayin Kuppan (58) weighing in with half-centuries.

Kaeden McAllister (92*) got Westville home with only three wickets still in hand. James Nielsen was the pick of Northwood’s bowling attack as he grabbed three wickets at the cost of only 39 runs.

Michaelhouse’s Murray Baxter (103*) saved his side from a defeat in their time-cricket match-up against St Charles’ College. He faced 139 deliveries as he almost saw his side home before play was called off.

Baxter struck five fours and three sixes in his innings on the Roy Gathorne Oval.

St Charles reached 198/6 when they declared their innings after 60 overs with Ntando Zuma (90) leading the charge. Michael Thornton (2/34) and Nathan Hoatson (2/44) was the pick of Michaelhouse’s bowling attack.

Hilton College managed to secure a one-wicket victory over Maritzburg College on Goldstones in Pietermaritzburg.

The home side managed only 140 before being bowled out with Brett Cutting (3/27) and Nicholas Chanter (2/33) causing most of the damage. Bryn Brokensha (35) and Chad Mason (24) the only batsmen who managed to get their innings going.

Hilton’s captain, Ross Boast (49) led his side’s batting effort as Brokensha (3/12) and Oliver da Costa (3/15) caused havoc.

Glenwood High School bagged a 68-run victory over Clifton with Slade Lock shining with an allround performance. Lock (58) recorded a half-century while also picking up two wickets at the cost of only 22 runs.

Kearsney College came out on top by nine-wickets against Durban High School in a match which was affected heavily by the Duckworh/Lewis-method due to rain. DHS batted first and was in trouble at 47/8 after 20 overs in the 45 overs-a-side match.

Kearsney only needed 81 in 45 overs after the adjustment and Hayden Bishop (38*) and Dyllan Wiggit (34*) saw them home without too much trouble.
