King Edward VIIKing Edward VII’s Heinrigh Pieterse was in a devastating mood during the opening day of the bi-annual cricket week hosted by Grey High School in Port Elizabeth. Pieterse scored 152 runs to help his side reach 275/9 in 58 overs in their match against Northwood.

Pieterse faced 155 deliveries in his innings and struck 14 fours and five sixes. He shared a 74-run partnership with Kian Schwartz (27) over the fifth wicket as well as a 71-run partnership with Timothy Berman (0*) at the end of the innings.

Pieterse lost his wicket with the final delivery being caught by Samkelo Gasa (3/67) off his own bowling. Berman only faced 11 deliveries in the partnership and didn’t contribute any runs but did very well to keep Pieterse on strike.

Pieterse was also the pick of the bowlers for KES as he picked up four wickets for 40 runs as Northwood was bowled out for 152.

Grey High School’s Tiaan van Vuuren returned from injury with 93 runs against Affies. Van Vuuren missed the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week in Cape Town due to a stress fracture. Affies averted defeat thanks to some gritty batting by Gunter Kruger (45) and Dewald Brevis (33).

Grey College of Bloemfontein had too much firepower for Pearson. The team from the City of Roses needed only two wickets when play was called to secure an outright victory. Dean de Bruin was the star performer as he picked up a five-wicket haul as Grey bowled Pearson out for a mere 64 runs.

He removed five batsmen for only 21 runs in Pearsons’ first innings. In the second innings, he got rid of another two batsmen for 27 runs.

Glenwood’s Bandile Ngcobo (5/37) also managed to pick up a five-wicket haul as his side managed a narrow victory on the first innings against Selborne College. Jason Login (5/43) also completed a five-wicket haul for St Charles College as they defeated Framesby.

No scorecard was received of the match between Durban High School and Muir College.
