Wian LubbePotchefstroom Gimnasium will be more than happy with their recent tour through the Eastern Cape.

They managed to finish the tour which included five matches over the long weekend unbeaten of which a victory over the prestigious cricket nursery Grey High School of Port Elizabeth stands out.

Gimmies faced Grey PE on Saturday in a limited-overs clash on the Pollock Oval winning the encounter by 65 runs. Gimmies batted first and reached 212 before being bowled out thanks to valuable contributions by Johan Mahne (71), Martin Bullock (29), and Martin van Onselen (26).

These three players were also the main stalwarts for Gimmies during the tour. Kaden Titus picked up three wickets for only 29 runs causing the most trouble for the visiting side’s batsmen.

Grey High School could however only answer 147 runs in return as Bullock (4/22) bulldozed through their batting line-up.

Potch Gimmies opened the tour on Thursday with two Twenty/20 matches against Hudson Park and Westering respectively.

Hudson Park of East London was comfortably beaten by 82 runs. Van Onselen (39) and Christian Turkstra (30) contributing with the bat.

Against Westering it was Conrad Jordaan who seemed like he was longing to get back to his room and relax. He picked up four wickets for a mere eight runs as Westering was restricted to only 61 runs. Jordaan also opened the batting and top-scored with 27 runs to steer his side to a seven-wicket victory.

On Friday against Pearson in a time-cricket match, it was Johan Mahne (114) leading the charge with a century. Gimmies however only scored 194 in their first innings thanks to some excellent bowling by Esa Gangat (5/55). He was supported well by Connor Mitchell (3/42).

Pearson was bowled out one run short of drawing the match giving the visitors the smallest of leads on the first innings. Gimmies reached 111/2 in their second innings before play was called off.

In their final match of the tour, Gimmies defeated Graeme College of Grahamstown by three wickets with Mahne (52) and Van Onselen (50) scoring half-centuries. Connor Pietersen of Graeme College caused some trouble as he picked up five wickets for 44 runs.
