The second day of Cricket South Africa’s annual Cubs Week in Stellenbosch belonged to no-one other than Knights captain, Garnett Tarr.

He recorded the highest ever innings at the prestigious tournament with an unbeaten 181 runs which also helped his side secure an impressive victory over the Cape Cobras at the Distell-field. Tarr struck two sixes from SA Schools bowler Achille Cloete in the 46th over to take his team past the target of 280 they needed for victory.

The opening batsmen faced only 135 deliveries. His innings included 28 boundaries of which seven only touched the ground for the first time on the other side of the boundary rope.

South African u19 batsman Jonathan Bird (106) also managed to score a century in the game, but in the end, it was not enough for the Cobras to secure a win. Bird and Ruan Terblanche (68) shared a 158-run opening partnership. When they were still swinging the willow, it looked as if the Cobras would go past 300 in their allotted 50 overs.

The Dolphins must be contenders for the title after their second victory at the tournament. They defeated the Lions by 60 runs.

The Dolphins batted first and reached 230/7 in their allotted overs thanks to contributions by Matthew Montgomery (76), Thamsanqa Khumalo (53) and Jason Kraft (39).

Despite the efforts from the allrounder of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week, Marco Janson (5/47), picked up the first five-wicket haul at this year’s tournament.

The Lions’ opening batsman Cameron Shekleton (82*) carried his bat, but could not find enough assistance from his teammates to get a partnership going.

The Warriors just missed out on another bonus-point victory in their match against the Titans. The Warriors won by six wickets with Nonelela Yikha and Luke Beaufort both yet again playing prominent roles.

Yikha removed three batsmen at the cost of only 17 runs to help restrict the Titans to 184. Juandré Scheepers (42) and Ethan Wentzel (37) the only batsmen managing to offer some resistance.

Beaufort (49) followed his century on the opening day up by just missing out on a half-century. Tristan Stubbs (37) and Emihle Mqogi (30*) also making valuable contributions for the victors.
